SAN ANTONIO – Student, parents and teachers are mourning the loss of 18-year Josh Pollard.
Pollard played football and baseball and was preparing to start his senior year at Winston Churchill High School.
"There's just nothing bad to say about him. Whenever you'd feel down or anything, you could always count on him to make you feel happy. He's just a great friend and a better person," said Sam Cole, Pollard’s friend.
According to Aubrey Mika Chancellor, a spokeswoman with the Northeast Independent School District, Josh Pollard “went to sleep Monday night and did not wake up.”
The Bexar County medical examiner said the cause of death was due to Pollard’s enlarged heart.
"When I got the news that he passed, I almost broken down in tears. I started pacing my house. And this is a guy that I didn't speak to that much, and I wish I did," said David Millard, a student at Winston Churchill.
The school had counselors on hand as 500 to 600 students and parents arrived on campus to remember Josh.
“There's no doubt the amount of lives Josh touched and interacted with. There's a kid in there that I'm sure he knew when he was at Coker Elementary School," said Ron Harris, Churchill High head football coach.
Pollard was set to be the starting cornerback on the football team this year. Harris said he would sit down with his senior class and find a way to honor Josh this upcoming season.
