SAN ANTONIO – As the murder trial of Antonio Torres entered its third day Thursday, prosecutors called Torres’ girlfriend Kimberly Oyervides as their first witness.
Oyervides testified that she was with Torres on the night of November 4, 2013, as they drove to the home of her mother at 1309 Keats Street. She said Torres wanted to speak with her mother about an earlier disagreement between the two women.
Oyervides testified that Roy Ruiz, Oyervides’ sister’s boyfriend, answered the door and he and Torres began talking.
“They, like, walked to the car behind me and from there, like within seconds, I heard the gunshots,” Oyervides said.
She said that Torres carried a gun that night, but she did not see who fired the shots that killed Ruiz. From the scene, she said she and Torres drove to a mobile home on Old Pearsall Road, where Torres lived.
“Anthony went and started cleaning himself up with chemicals and stuff like that,” Oyervides testified. “He got in the shower, changed his clothes and threw the clothes in the dumpster.”
On the night of the murder, witnesses at the scene recalled seeing Torres talking to Ruiz.
Torres was picked up by police a week later and denied killing Ruiz. He was later released.
On November 13, Torres was arrested and booked for Ruiz’s murder. If he is convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Testimony is expected to continue on Friday in Judge Jefferson Moore’s 186th District Court.
