SAN ANTONIO – Police arrested 23-year-old Celeste Altamirano Thursday and charged her with injury to a child by omission in the murder of her 4-year-old son, Jordan, who died last month.
Two weeks ago, police arrested Ricardo Hernandez for Jordan’s death after Hernandez admitted to pushing Jordan out of frustration.
Jordan died from a broken back and a severed aorta. Police said while Altamirano didn’t physically cause her son’s death, her lack of action is still a crime.
“You need to seek medical attention. You need to seek law enforcement protection. You need to do certain things. There are responsibilities that come with having a child, and this is one of the most basic responsibilities, making sure your children are safe,” said Sgt. Jesse Salame, with the San Antonio Police Department.
Hernandez remains in custody under a capital murder charge. Altamirano, who is pregnant, has three surviving children. Authorities said the children are safe, but are unsure if they are in the custody of Child Protective Services.
