Emilio Navaira's family keeping his memory alive

Raulito Navaira talks about life after Emilio

SAN ANTONIO – This Saturday will be four months since Emilio Navaira passed away.

"Nobody expected it," Raulito Navaira said.

Family, friends and fans were shocked at the death of Emilio Navaira, which happened on May 17. He suffered from cardiovascular disease.

Since his passing, Emilio Navaira's family has been overwhelmed with support.

"We still get Facebook messages, letters and phone calls and that helps a lot," Raulito Navaira said.

One thing that many won't forget is Emilio Navaira's music. Raulito Navaira and his own two children have their own band and can be seen on stage performing Emilio's classics.

"We do original songs, but right now we've been really busy because everyone wants us to do a tribute to Emilio," Raulito Navaira said. "Who better than his family?"

As far as Emilio Navaira's two sons, they, too, are doing well with their own band, called The Last Bandoleros.

Recently, they played on the "Jimmy Kimmel Show" and will soon be touring with Sting.

Despite the huge loss to the Navaira family and the Tejano Music industry, the Navarias are grateful of the time they had with Emilio Navaira.

"We went through a tragedy in 2008 with the bus wreck that we had," Raulito Navaira said. "I look at it as God gave us eight more years with him, and I think he left us at his happiest."
