Sheriff's Office sting operation recovers $2 million in stolen jewelry

Sting operation initiated after missing jewelry reports in Stone Oak

SAN ANTONIO – An investigation that began in August has led to the recovery of what Bexar County Sheriff’s Office investigators said is $2 million dollars in stolen jewelry.

Six residents in the Stone Oak area reported jewelry missing and all had employed the same housecleaning woman.

“It all came to a head finally when I noticed the day that the housekeeper was due to clean my home that my jewelry – my wedding ring and my great grandmother’s wedding ring – were missing,” Kendra Crerand said.

The residents reported the missing jewelry to the Sheriff’s Office and investigators initiated a sting operation at a South Side jewelry store.

“Our deputies got a search warrant and then we went and closed the shop down,” Sheriff Susan Pamerleau said Monday.

Inside a safe at the store deputies found many of the victim’s stolen items according to the sheriff.

She said investigators suspect that the store operators were knowingly buying stolen jewelry.

Pamerleau said that the housekeeper is cooperating with what she described as an ongoing investigation.

“We have not made any arrests at this point because we believe it’s a bigger operation,” Pamerleau said.
