SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office broke ground on a new substation in west Bexar County.

The West Patrol Substation will be the second for the Sheriff’s Office. The new building will be located on a 5-acre site on Cagnon Road near Loop 1604 and Highway 90.

The hope is that the new station will help give residents better access to law enforcement and increase safety.

“It was needed because before, we had everybody kind of clustered even further out in the county,” Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff said. “The drive time to reach various parts of the city were a long drive, so timing to get to the source of a problem took a good while to do it. We’ll now be dispersed in the community and be able to do it in a quicker time.”

Wolff said the area where the substation will be built is one of the fastest-growing areas in the county. Construction is expected to be completed by sometime late next year.
