SAN ANTONIO – Federal agents raided two doctors’ offices on the city's Northwest Side Tuesday. Dr. Javier Bocanegra, who has been with Community Family Medicine for 28 years, said he and his staff got quite the surprise on Tuesday morning when FBI and DEA agents showed up.
KSAT cameras caught investigators bringing out boxes from Community Family Medicine on Callaghan Road.
"They are doing an investigation on three companies that they feel committed fraud," Bocanegra said. "They've been investigating them for three years, and unfortunately, they provided some services to some of my patients."
Bocanegra said investigators spent the day going through a list of his patients, who the companies in question had provided medications to, with mixed ingredients to treat arthritis pain. He said he knows many of his patients and friends were concerned that his office had to be shut down for the day, so he wants everyone to know that no one in his office has committed any crime.
“I would like to reassure them that I'm there, like I’ve always been for them," Bocanegra said. "And they don't have to worry about me doing anything illegal."
Bocanegra said while it was a little nerve-racking to see the agents there, he saw the subpoena and knew the investigation was not directed toward him.
"I knew it wasn't directed toward me, even though they had to compile the evidence," Bocanegra said. "And I asked them directly, ‘Do you have any charges against me?’ And, they said ‘No we don't have any charges against you. We just need the evidence.’”
The FBI would not confirm Bocanegra's claims on Tuesday night because the case is still under investigation.
Community Family Medicine will be reopened on Wednesday morning.
