SAN ANTONIO – The family of a woman who was gunned down on an East Side street Wednesday night is desperately searching for answers.
Police said 26-year-old Destiny Garcia was shot about 10:40 p.m. in the 1500 block of Hays Street. They are still searching for her killer.
Garcia left behind a 9-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son. Family said she was living on the East Side with a friend.
Her family was at Barton’s Boozery on the West Side Saturday to raise money for Garcia’s funeral expenses.
Garcia’s mother said family members she hasn’t seen in years went out to help. The family had a steady stream of people making donations.
Garcia’s father learned of her shooting from one of her siblings.
“I asked him if she's alright. And he said, 'No, dad. They saying that she is dead.' And that hit me hard,” said Savrin Price, Garcia’s father. “I feel hurt. I feel like it's tearing me apart because I know there's a killer who may have done this a couple of times, and somebody needs to come to justice for this."
The family said they believe that San Antonio police can bring justice for Garcia.
"Somebody knows something, more than one person. Just come, say something. Let us know,” said Rosa Maria Garcia, Destiny Garcia’s mother.
Investigators said they’re looking for a man in his mid-20s to early 30s. He was wearing all black clothing the night of the shooting.
