Fire apparatus operator Tom Hollick helped organize the donation drop-off. He used to live in Tennessee in the area affected by the fires.

“It was heartbreaking because I know people up there. I know the community, and it’s very tightknit,” he said. “I got a lot of friends. Of course, the co-workers that I had, they were the ones who were battling this fire. I just want to help them out as much as I can.”

Hollick is driving to Tennessee to deliver the donations on Dec. 18. The department will be accepting donations at Fire Stations 1 and 2 in Schertz.
