HOUSTON – There's been months of anticipation. A new jewel of downtown Houston opened this week.
Several city leaders are expected to be at the hotel, including Mayor Sylvester Turner to help open the doors to the brand new Marriott Marquis Houston.
In fact, Turner will flip the switch on one of the main features of the brand new property-- the eye-catching Texas-shaped lazy River on the roof.
The one-of-kind water attraction is said to be the world's largest Texas-shaped rooftop lazy river.
As for the property itself, the hotel has 1,000 rooms, 40 of suites, including presidential suite, restaurants and bars.
Of course, the opening of the Marriott is just in time for the Super Bowl, which will be happening in February.
Plenty of excitement building for that.
“I think it's out of this world. It's really nice and we're in the middle of the tour here and we had lunch down there, which was great,” said Nena Beltran, a Marriott Marquis guest.
“We're enjoying this here. We're looking forward to coming and staying; we're already thinking of how we can come over here for Super Bowl. We can still book something now," said Ray Beltran, also a Marriott Marquis guest.

Turner said the hotel is helping to make Houston and downtown as competitive as any other in the country.
"This hotel in and of itself literally transforms downtown and makes the city of Houston competitive with any other city in America. Dallas doesn't have it, Austin doesn't have it, not San Antonio, and even New York, LA, San Francisco. (The) list goes on, and on, and on," Turner said.
