Jonathan Murphy, 42, of Cibolo was the good Samaritan shot and killed Sunday afternoon inside Rolling Oaks Mall according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.

San Antonio police said Murphy was one of two civilians who tried to stop a pair of suspects from leaving the scene of an armed robbery.

Police said Murphy and another man confronted the two suspects who had robbed Kay Jewelers around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. They said one of the two suspected robbers shot and killed Murphy.

The other good Samaritan also had a gun of his own and fired at the suspects, wounding one, police said. The second robbery suspect ran off also firing a gun in the process.

Police said two people inside the mall suffered gunshot wounds.

Early Monday, SAPD announced that the suspect who ran away had been captured by police in Converse.

Officer Douglas Greene, a public information officer with SAPD, said Converse police tracked down the suspect around 3:45 p.m. Sunday. He said the man, whose name has yet to be released, tried to run away after crashing a stolen vehicle near Loop 1604 and Copper Gate, just north of Interstate 10.

Greene said the suspect had two guns on him at the time of his arrest.

The other suspect remains in the hospital in critical condition. Police said both suspects face several charges including capital murder. The other shooting victims also were treated at an area hospital.

According to a posting on GoFundMe.com, Murphy was at the mall with his wife having their wedding rings cleaned when he was killed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the unforeseen robbery yesterday. Committed to the safety of our shoppers and retailers, we are cooperating with the San Antonio Police Department as they investigate this isolated incident,” Dustin Christensen, general manager of Rolling Oaks Mall said in statement.

UPDATE: Rolling Oaks Mall is scheduled to reopen on Monday at noon.
