SAN ANTONIO – Aimee Murphy said she won't soon forget those final moments.
Murphy and her husband, Jonathan, visited Rolling Oaks Mall Sunday. They went to Kay Jewelers to have their wedding rings cleaned.
"I started hearing this banging. I didn't understand what was going on," Murphy said.
They found themselves inside the store with two suspected thieves. One of them was identified as Jason Prieto, 34.
“One was bashing the glass display and the other one was waving, pointing, shouting and screaming, like he had a gun," Murphy said.
Murphy was standing between her and one of the suspects. Jonathan tried to get in front of her.
"I think he was trying to stand in between to protect me, maybe protect the children. I don't know, I don't know what he was thinking. He didn't say anything and the guy just started shooting him," said Murphy.
The Murphy family says he was shot in the head and chest. By the time emergency workers reached him, he had died. Two other people were also shot but are expected to be OK.
One of the alleged robber’s is still unidentified and in critical condition at the hospital. He was shot by a mall shopper with a concealed handgun license.
The other suspect, Jason Prieto was arrested a short time after the shooting. Both men are being charged with capital murder and two counts of aggravated robbery.
