Mexican Consulate in SA now issuing birth certificates

SAN ANTONIO – Mexico's Consulate General in San Antonio can now issue birth certificates.

This is for Mexican citizens in the U.S. whose births were never registered in their home country. Under a new law, ambassadors and consuls can issue identity documents to Mexican citizens in this certain situation.

The consulate on Friday issued its first birth certificate to a little girl. Dafne Zoe Ruiz Torres emigrated with her family from Guanajuato.

The consulate said that piece of paper gives citizens their right to identity, regardless of where they are living.

The birth certificate will allow Dafne to enroll in school and get medical insurance.
