PIPE CREEK, Texas – It is a unique and fascinating relationship between a person with an injury or disability or just headed the wrong way in life and a horse.
The Triple H Equitherapy Ranch, near Pipe Creek, specializes in cultivating their relationships -- bringing rehabilitation from an office to a 200-acre ranch where a client can connect with nature and start the healing process.
"When folks come out here, it's amazing because you actually get to see lives transforming, and it's very miraculous in a way," said Ginger Eways, executive director of Triple H Equitherapy.
Brian Worley is one of those folks. his 6-year-old son, Braxton, has been coming to the ranch and riding horses for two years.
"Our son is a different kid on a horse," Brian Worley said.
Braxton has hydrocephalus and autism. There was some concern from mom and dad about putting such a little guy on such a big horse, but Braxton puts on his boots and jeans and climbs aboard showing no fear, only ready to have some relief.
"You put him on the horse and you're looking, watching him ride around saying, 'Who's that kid?' He's confident, quiet and focused," Worley said.
Those qualities he displays comes from the relationship between Braxton and his horse. It is just a special sense that the horse is born with.
"They are very unique in the ability to relate to people in such a powerful way and sense naturally when they need to build that bond," Eways said.
"We just see a child riding a horse, but what is really happening down to the neurological levels is phenomenal," Worley said.
For the clients, parents and those who work at the Triple H, it’s an amazing transformation.
“Every day some kind of mini-miracle happens," Eways said.
The public has a chance to witness those mini-miracles when the Triple H opens its trails to the public on April 29. It is a chance to folks to visit and learn what equitherapy is all about.
The 17th annual Trail Ride Horsin’ Around is April 29 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
It will cost $35 for those with a horse and $15 for those without one.
