Defenders Debrief: 911 operator training troubles

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio 911 operators claim under-qualified employees are putting officers' lives at risk.

The long list of complaints, from more than 40 dispatch employees, were obtained by the KSAT 12 Defenders.

Employees said newly-hired call takers are being rushed through training and do not know how to handle emergency calls.

Supervisors are also accused of using threats and bully tactics when dispatchers raise concerns in the workplace.

San Antonio Police Department's assistant director Steve Baum, the person in charge of the dispatch center, said he is addressing the concerns with all levels of employees there.

Dillon Collier, from The Defenders, spoke with Mark Austin and Leslie Mouton on GMSA @ 9 for a Defenders Debrief.
