Councilman Warrick taking back claims of being drugged at local bar

SAN ANTONIO

City Councilman Alan Warrick, who is running for re-election in District 2, is turning back on a claim he made on Facebook.

KSAT 12 spoke with Warrick about his claim that someone drugged him while he was out with friends this week.

Warrick said the bar owner went over security footage from Thursday night and said it appears no one put anything in Warrick's drinks.

"I apologize to the people of District 2. I apologize to the bar owner. I will go back to his establishment and maybe we can do some kind of event to bring awareness to the issue I thought was happening," Warrick said.

Warrick said he had too much to drink before he woke up Friday morning on a bench in front of City Hall.

The bar had several surveillance cameras inside.

"What (the bar's) videos accounted was I did have more than the three drinks. It was a birthday activity, but I really don't remember any of this. But based on (the bar owner's) accounts, nobody tampered with my drinks," Warrick said.

Warrick couldn't say how many drinks he had that night.

"I've never had that actual type of reaction with alcohol and the blacking out of and losing five or six hours," Warrick said.

Warrick said he still doesn't know how he ended up on the bench in front of City Hall.

"I give my deepest apologies. Again, nothing like this will ever happen again," he said. "I've not necessarily learned my lesson, but I know having that many drinks, whatever number that was, on an empty stomach was probably not a great idea."

The councilman will be facing off with William Cruz Shaw in the runoff election for his District 2 seat.

Shaw sent the following statement to KSAT in response to Warrick's actions:

“I’m calling on Councilman Warrick to withdraw from this race. His actions over the last two days have been utterly unacceptable. District 2’s Council representative drank excessively Thursday night and passed out in front of City Hall. To cover his tracks, he lied, making up a wild story about being drugged and dragged to the bench outside City Hall.

“Councilman Warrick is deeply troubled. He should get the help he clearly needs, for his own sake and that of his family.

District 2 has many needs, and Alan Warrick has failed to meet them. We can’t afford to have a City Council member who’s erratic, ineffective, and distracted by his own problems.”
