SAN ANTONIO – It's no secret that San Antonio has long been known as Military City USA. But now it's official.
City officials unveiled the official Military City, USA trademark Monday on the steps of City Hall.
Since cities like San Diego and Colorado Springs have also claimed to be Military City, USA, local officials decided to apply for the trademark, which was secured in March.
Mayor-elect Ron Nirenberg said San Antonio has had a working relationship with the military for many years, and that relationship will continue far into the future.
"The military has long been, for centuries, part of San Antonio's DNA. And I'm so very proud to be working with a group of people that considers that a non-negotiable," he said.
The military makes up a huge portion of the local economy and population.
About 10 percent of the city is associated with Joint Base San Antonio in some way.
