Motorcyclist shot following chain-reaction wrecks on NE Side

Victim in serious condition; shooting reported near Loop 410, Starcrest

No description found

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police responded to a chaotic situation Monday on the city’s Northeast Side involving a shooting and two car accidents.

Police said the series of events started with a minor accident around 1 p.m. on the access road of Loop 410 near Village Drive.

Officer Doug Greene said the driver of an 18-wheeler tried to avoid the accident, when a car got wedged underneath the big rig.

The two accidents caused a huge traffic backup, and that's when police said a man on a motorcycle was shot near a Jack In The Box at Loop 410 and Starcrest Drive.

"It's our understanding that there might have been some kind of dispute or argument between the driver of the motorcycle and another individual in another vehicle, and that suspect fired once at that individual on the motorcycle," Greene said.

The victim, who was shot in the stomach, tried to flee the scene but got off his bike and collapsed, Greene said.

The man was taken to University Hospital in serious condition.

Police did not have a suspect description in the shooting, but officers were talking to witnesses to try to determine what happened.

No one was injured in either traffic accident, Greene said.
