SA company, historic preservation team up to restore homes

STAR program created in 2010

SAN ANTONIO – A local organization is looking to restore parts of San Antonio to its former glory.

The Office of Historic Preservation and its STAR program are teaming up with Turner Construction Company to make it happen.

STAR stands for students together achieving revitalization, and it is part of an initiative created back in 2010.

The goal is to preserve local pieces of history by motivating others to invest in their homes.

"This home belongs to a senior citizen, Mrs. Francis Allen and she's lived in this home for over 45 years,” CEO and founder of iDeam Community Center said. “(She) raised her children here. So in the process of what we are doing is making it possible for her to come back home."

So far, more than 100 historic homes have been reached through the initiative.

Turner Construction said they hope to inspire other companies to do the same.
