According to a San Antonio Police Department warrant for Camacho, he sent a text message to a female witness to the shooting, asking her to tell police "it was a black guy."
Witnesses told SAPD investigators Camacho intended to steal drugs, which are referred to in the warrant as "hydro" and "bars," from Covarrubias prior to the shooting.
After the shooting, Camacho fled from the house and got into a car that was driven away from the scene by an unidentified person, according to the warrant.
Camacho's previous criminal record in Bexar County includes convictions for identity theft, failure to properly identify himself to a peace officer and theft.
He also faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, according to district court clerk records.
Camacho has been remanded without bail.
