Fire at Northeast Side apartment complex forces evacuation

Fire was reported around 3:45 a.m. at Newport Apartments building 4

SAN ANTONIO – Residents at a far Northeast Side apartment complex were forced to evacuate due to an early morning fire, fire officials said Monday.

The call was reported around 3:45 a.m. at the Newport Apartments, found in the 3800 block of Perrin Central Boulevard.

Firefighters said they found smoke and fire on the back side of building 4 coming from an exterior portion of the building itself, but not at any of the apartments.

Firefighters tore off the siding to get to the fire and put it out, officials said. The fire did not spread to the attic or any apartments.

All of the people who live at the apartments were evacuated but do get to go home, firefighters said. No damage was done to any of the apartments.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious or related to any electrical issues although some residents said they have had electrical problems in their apartment lately.
