A neighbor called 911 around 7 a.m. to report a man armed with a machete walking near a home in the 200 block of Army Boulevard and a commotion involving a woman, Police Chief William McManus said.

When police arrived, they were not able to enter the home because the door was barricaded, McManus said. Officers had to remove burglar bars from a window to gain entry.

The women, one in her 30s and the other in her 50s, suffered severe injuries, McManus said.

"This was domestic. He was actually involved with one of the women,” McManus said.

The chase went up and down Highway 281 and through several neighborhood streets. At one point, Quiala passed back by the home where the attack occurred, McManus said. A KSAT 12 News crew was at the scene as the fleeing suspect sped by. Photojournalist Tim Stewart captured the video of the dangerous procession whizzing past him.

Police caught up with Quiala after he crashed his van near Euclid and Wilmington streets, McManus said.

Quiala was hurt in the struggle and was taken to a hospital, McManus said.
