Prison inmate attacks correctional officer at Hondo TDCJ facility

Bryant Kendrick repeatedly punches officer in face, officials say

HONDO, Texas – An inmate at the Torres Unit in Hondo assaulted a correctional officer who required hospitalization.

The attack happened Wednesday when Bryant Kendrick entered a dormitory area, turned and repeatedly punched a 23-year-old female officer in the face, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark said.

Man shot by SAPD officer to face criminal charges

Kendrick was immediately restrained by other officers, Clark said.

The officer was transported to University Hospital in stable condition for facial injuries, Clark said.

Kendrick was moved from the unit and a criminal case was filed against him.

He was been in prison since July 2009 to serve a 12-year sentence for aggravated robbery out of Brazos County.
