SAN ANTONIO – A man who threw a cat under a passing truck will spend eight years in prison, officials said Friday.
Genaro Perales, 25, was walking in the area of Interstate 35 and Martin Street when he spotted a black and white cat named Sebastian, picked up the animal and intentionally threw it into the path of an oncoming truck, which killed the cat, according to a statement from the city of San Antonio Animal Care Services.

Perales was arrested after the crime took place, in December.
The Central Patrol Property Crimes Unit of the San Antonio Police Department and Animal Care Services investigated the case.
Perales’ charge was enhanced to a state jail felony because of his previous unrelated convictions.
