FALFURRIAS, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection released a statement on the detainment of several Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients at a checkpoint in Falfurrias.

An immigration attorney said her client was held at the checkpoint for seven hours before being allowed to travel from the Rio Grande Valley to Corpus Christi.

Agents said they met with nine DACA recipients Monday and asked to see documentation.

In the statement, CBP said, “The individuals were released to proceed with their journey, consistent with established policies and procedures.”

President Donald Trump’s decision to end the DACA program is sparking a growing number of legal challenges from states across the country.

California and 15 other states are suing the Trump administration, claiming the move to rescind DACA is unconstitutional.

In Washington, House Democrats are pushing to pass legislation to protect the DACA recipients by Christmas.
