Jesus Garcia Jr.,21, charged in slaying of Gabriel Ybarra, 22

SAN ANTONIO – A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the Monday night shooting death of a 22-year-old man at a South Side park.

Jesus Garcia is being held in the Bexar County Jail on a $150,000 bond.

Police said the victim, Gabriel Ybarra, got into an argument with Garcia after the suspect confronted him shortly before midnight at Villa Coronado Park at 10122 Ruidosa Street.

Garcia pulled out a gun and shot Ybarra in the head, police said. The victim died at the scene.

Officers, using a dog and helicopter, searched the area for Garcia, who ran away. They later found him at an unknown location and arrested him.

Some of Ybarra's family members returned to the murder scene Tuesday morning, at times breaking down in tears.

His mother said she hopes to find out more about what led to her son's death.
