TEL AVIV, Israel – Mayor Ron Nirenberg might be thousands of miles from the Alamo City, but his Spurs spirit is still on full display.
While visiting the West Wall in Israel, Nirenberg donned a Yarmulke embroidered with the Spurs logo.

The visit to the Middle East is the first part of an international trip.
The mayor led the trade mission with the goal of “extending the relationship with San Antonio’s Friendship City of Tel Aviv, developing a better cultural understanding of Israel and learning more about its industry sectors in information technology and cybersecurity, innovation and start-ups and biomedical,” the mayor’s office said in a press release.
“There is broad recognition in international business and diplomatic circles that economic partnerships don’t just happen,” Nirenberg said. “They require lots of work and relationship building that happens on trade missions just like this.”
After the trip to Israel, the delegation will then visit Germany to help support the University of Texas at San Antonio’s goal of becoming a tier one university and to highlight the city’s tricentennial festivities in 2018.
Nirenberg was joined in Israel by District 1 City Council member Roberto Trevino and District 8 representative Manny Peleaz in Germany.
The Middle East portion of the trade mission included more than 20 business and other community leaders.
