SAN ANTONIO – Officer Julio Cavazos is finally speaking about the fateful events of June 29, when he and his partner Miguel Moreno were shot in downtown San Antonio.
Cavazos and Moreno were shot while investigating vehicle burglaries by Andrew Bice.
“I saw the white flash and I heard the boom, and I knew I had been shot,” Cavazos said in a video posted to the San Antonio Police Department Facebook page.
Cavazos, 36, was shot twice, and despite being wounded, he was able to drag Moreno away from the line of fire and shoot Bice in the buttocks.

Moreno succumbed to his injuries on June 30, one day after the incident.
Cavazos, a nine-year veteran, is hoping to return to work in January.
“I really want to thank everybody. If you’re somebody that’s watching and you gave something, even if it was a silent prayer, even if it was a thought, or you saw a police officer having lunch and you said 'Thank you.' It means the world,” Cavazos said.
