BOERNE, Texas – Flames destroyed part of the Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort in Boerne, leaving firefighters to battle the blaze for hours.
The fire broke out at the clubhouse, with most of the structure reduced to ash.
Around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, flames were shooting into the sky and smoke could be seen for about a mile.
Boerne Fire Department officials said they initially got a call for a fire in the attic before 7 p.m. When first responders arrived, they began to secure the scene as flames burst through the clubhouse’s roof.
It’s still unclear whether anyone was in the building at the time. No injuries were reported.
The resort has several buildings. A wedding took place in a building just a few hundred yards from the clubhouse.
While the wedding wasn’t affected, others who are vacationing at the club said they will now have to change their plans.
“It's really sad. I had breakfast in that facility today, played golf on the golf course there and then left at 6:30 to go get cleaned up for dinner, walked back out and all of a sudden the whole thing is just gone,” said Brian Brockel, a guest at the resort.
Investigators are looking into what caused the fire.
Country music star George Strait became one of the owners of the resort in 2011.
