Delivery driver shot by someone in passing vehicle

Shooting was reported just before 2:30 a.m. on Fredericksburg Rd

SAN ANTONIO – A delivery driver out making his rounds on the city's Northwest Side overnight was shot and wounded by someone in a passing vehicle, San Antonio police said.

They found the wounded man early Thursday morning at a 7-Eleven store near Loop 410 and Vance Jackson.

Officers said the driver told them he was heading down Fredericksburg Road near Loop 410 when he noticed a black sport utility vehicle traveling in the opposite direction suddenly make a u-turn. The driver said the vehicle pulled up alongside his truck then someone inside fired a shot at him.

The driver managed to make his way to the store on Vance Jackson where the clerk called for help shortly before 2:30 a.m.

"He passed out because he was bleeding so much. So he passed out," said Khan Furquan, who works at 7-Eleven. "He was lucky he only got shot in the (ankle) and nothing else."

Furquan called 911, then tried to help the driver stop the bleeding.

He said he was surprised to see the same man, who had just delivered a supply of donuts and muffins, show up at the store again.

The driver, who is in his 30s, was rushed to University Hospital and, at last check, was stable.

Police are trying to find out more about the shooter, who was said to be in a black SUV.
