Rene Blancas Jr. was riding in his family's car on Nov. 4 when someone fired a shot at the car at Briggs Avenue and New Laredo Highway, striking the boy, police said.

The victim's sister was sitting next to him, but she wasn't hurt, police said. The child was killed just days before his fourth birthday.

Police Chief William McManus said there is a lot of information and evidence to show that Trevino was the gunman.

McManus also said Trevino had five felony and two misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest that are unrelated to the shooting of Blancas, Jr.

Trevino was picked up without incident in the 1300 block of Cupples Road on the city’s Southwest Side.

Trevino denied the allegations against him. Police said Trevino will be charged with capital murder.
