Woman shot, killed by security guard identified

Lorna Serrano, 46, tried to run down guard with her car, police say

SAN ANTONIOUpdated Wednesday at 12:32 p.m.:

The woman was identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiners Office as Lorna Serano, 46.

Original story:

A 46-year-old woman was fatally shot by a security guard after police say she tried to run over him with her car in the parking lot of a Northeast Side sports bar.

The shooting was reported around 11:15 p.m. Sunday outside Bar 23 Sports Bar & Grill in the 4400 block of Walzem Road.

According to police at the scene, an altercation broke out in the parking lot.

The woman ignored commands to stop and drove her vehicle straight at the security guard, who fired a single shot through the front windshield, striking her,  a police report said.

"We had SAPD officers, [in] sort of an adjacent parking lot, handling a burglary of a vehicle. At that point they heard a gunshot. Officers ran over," said Officer Carlos Ortiz, a San Antonio police spokesman.

The woman was hit by a bullet to her neck, police said. She was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where she later died.

Officials said they are interviewing several witnesses to determine exactly what happened.

A police report said witnesses supported the security guard's story.

"We're going to obviously conduct an investigation into the incident to make sure that in the end, that the deadly force was warranted," Ortiz said. "As of right now, there isn't any charge against the security officer."

The reason for the altercation wasn't immediately known.

The woman's name has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin.
