Family of Kerrville teen hit by vehicle while riding bicycle pleads for witnesses to come forward

Teen later died at Peterson Regional Medical Center

KERRVILLE, Texas – A 17-year-old from Kerrville has died after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle Sunday night.

The teen has been identified as Matthew Cabello.

The crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday on Memorial Boulevard near Riverside Drive in Kerrville.

Police said a vehicle crashed into Cabello’s motorized bicycle, causing him to suffer severe injuries. He later died at Peterson Regional Medical Center.

What Mirna Castillo, Cabello's aunt, is saying:

  • “Everybody had something nice to say about him, and that is just beautiful.”

  • “Matthew was a very loving, respectful, hardworking young man. He loved his mother. He was inseparable with his mother and his younger sister, Alyssa.”

  • “First, we want answers. Be aware that there are people riding their bikes. Not everyone has a car. We want people to be considerate and not be on their phone, especially when it comes to bike riders.”

  • “I'm hoping someone comes forward ... or if a business around there can go back and look at their video and see if there was something on Sunday night around 8 p.m.”

Kerrville police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call their traffic division at 830-257-8181.

The teen's funeral will be held Thursday. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with costs.
