A man who is believed to be armed and dangerous climbed a fence at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis on Tuesday morning and has been holed up in the thick brush of the Army post ever since, officials said.
Officer Carlos Ortiz, a San Antonio Police Department spokesman, said some officers were responding to an eviction incident at a mobile home in the 19000 block of Shady Lane Drive around 9 a.m. when an officer noticed a man in a Ford F-250 pickup acting suspicious.
When the officer questioned the man, he took off running, Ortiz said.
The officer gave chase until the man jumped 20 feet into an embankment filled with bamboo in Leon Creek, Ortiz said.
The man then jumped a fence into Camp Bullis, where a police helicopter, a K-9 unit and multiple agencies searched for him.
"I can tell you from being over there that the area is heavy with brush and cedar and almost impenetrable just by walking," Ortiz said.
The Army post was placed on lockdown. Military police took over the search a few hours later, but haven't been able to find the man.
