GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas – A man who is already serving time in prison for an unrelated crime has been indicted on charges in connection to the death of a woman whose remains were found in a hay field in Guadalupe County in March 2016.
Guadalupe County officials said Willie Ray Wanzo, of Schertz, who was the boyfriend of Sarah Gaitin at the time of her disappearance, was the last known person to see Gaitin alive in October 2015, prior to her bones being discovered in a farmer’s field almost six months later.
The remains were identified through dental records and DNA as being those of Gaitin, a mother of four from San Antonio.
While Gaitin’s cause of death has not yet been determined, officials said Wanzo has been indicted on two counts of tampering and/or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse, as well as tampering and/or fabricating evidence with intent to impair.
"There is no statute of limitations on murder. All we need is that one piece of evidence and that eyewitness that will come forward to tell us how she died. That can take this in a whole different direction," said Sgt. Zachary McBride, with the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office.
