SAPD: Police sergeant shoots, kills woman who points Uzi at him

Officer-involved shooting happened at Huebner Commons shopping center

SAN ANTONIO – A 26-year-old woman is dead after police say an on-duty sergeant shot and killed her after she pointed an Uzi submachine gun at him in a Northwest Side shopping center.

Police Chief William McManus said they began receiving calls around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday about a suspicious person with a gun in the parking lot of the Huebner Commons shopping center, which is in the 11700 block of Huebner Road.

McManus said callers described the woman as being "very distraught."

The sergeant was already at the shopping center when police began receiving calls about the woman, McManus said.

McManus said when the sergeant approached the woman and gave her commands, the woman turned around and pulled out the Uzi.

The unidentified woman was then shot multiple times in her upper and lower torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene, McManus said.

McManus said the sergeant, a 23-year veteran of the Police Department, will be placed on administrative duty pending an investigation, per department protocol.
