SAN ANTONIO – A 38-year-old burglary suspect is accused of terrorizing a downtown San Antonio neighborhood for weeks by stealing high-end bicycles and tools from homes.
The San Antonio Police Department identified the suspect as Jason Fiala, who was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with burglary of a habitation.
Fiala is believed to be connected to several other burglaries in the area and expected to face additional charges, SAPD spokeswoman Jennifer Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said Wednesday's arrest stems from a burglary that happened Sept. 6 in the 500 block of Cedar Street, which is near King William and Lavaca neighborhoods.
On Tuesday, SAPD and Crime Stoppers released images from that burglary showing a man on home surveillance footage taking a high-end Trek bicycle worth around $1,200.
In the images, the man is seen holding the bicycle and then riding it with another bicycle by his side.
Less than 24 hours after SAPD and Crime Stoppers released images of the suspect, Rodriguez said an anonymous tip helped lead detectives to identifying Fiala as the suspect.
Detectives believe in the past several weeks, Fiala has stolen other high-end bicycles and tools from homes in the same area, Rodriguez said.
