SAN ANTONIO – Want to celebrate a special birthday with a deep discount at San Antonio Zoo?
Thursday, April 14, is Locals Day when admission to the zoo drops to just $8 per person for Bexar County residents.
In addition to discounted admission, there will also be special events throughout the day in honor of Timothy the hippo’s 7th birthday.
Schedule of events:
- 11:00 a.m. - Watermelon on-a-stick giveaway (while supplies last)
- 12:30 p.m. - Appearance by Cowboy and Hype Squad
- 1:00 p.m. - Visit from Animal Ambassador Team
- 1:30 p.m. - Drop Feed for the hippos with a chat from the team that cares for them every day
San Antonio Zoo frequently hosts locals day events for residents of San Antonio.
“This deep discount is the zoo’s way of showing gratitude towards residents of San Antonio; allowing for even more people to learn how the zoo combines conservation, animal care, and education in securing a future for wildlife,” zoo officials said.

The San Antonio Zoo, located at 3903 N St. Mary’s Street, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Discounted admission tickets can be purchased at the zoo’s front gate and online with proof of Bexar County residency.
Standard admission to the zoo is regularly $21.73 for adults and $17.16 for children ages 3 to 11. Children ages 2 and younger are free.
