HOUSTON – A gym teacher at Kashmere High School in Houston has been temporarily reassigned after allegations he physically attacked two students.

The students talked to KSAT’s sister station KPRC and said their teacher bit them and attacked them with a tennis racket.

Parents of Jose Ramirez and Jose Garcia say they’re upset about what happened and also unhappy with Houston Independent School District officials because nobody reached out to them.

According to the two students, Jose Ramirez and Jose Garcia, their coach attacked them over an issue with a missing tennis ball, KPRC reported.

The 10th graders said a tennis ball was hit in their direction, rolled under the school’s bleachers and the teacher thought they had it.

That’s when they say the teacher became angry and physically assaulted them.

“He was like, ‘do you want me to come and take it from you.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t got it.’ Then he just came up to me and started yanking on my clothes,” Garcia told KPRC.

The boys told KPRC the teacher slapped Ramirez in the back when he tried to intervene and claim the teacher then hit Ramirez.

KPRC reported that Ramirez tried to defend himself but the teacher picked up a tennis racket and swung it at Ramirez multiple times.

“At first I thought he tried to throw it at him so I grabbed the tennis racket and it hit me right here (over the eye) and everything went black and I just saw little white dots,” Garcia told KPRC.

The students said the teacher started chasing Ramirez who fell as he tried to run away and that’s when the teacher bit him.

“It wasn’t even like a straight tooth bite, it was sideways and he was shaking his head and everything,” Ramirez told KPRC.

Garcia said he punched and kicked the teacher to get him to stop biting his friend.

The students’ parents filed a police report and provided photos to KPRC showing a fresh bit mark on Ramirez’s leg.

KSAT reached out to Kashmere High School Principal Brandon Dickerson but has not yet heard back.

Dickerson provided the following statement to KPRC Tuesday morning:

“This is an important message for Kashmere HS parents from Principal Brandon Dickerson. Please be advised that a one of our teachers has been temporarily reassigned pending the results of an internal investigation concerning a personnel matter. Due to the pending investigation, HISD will not be providing additional information at this time. Please know that HISD and Kashmere High School value your students and their safety. We will ensure classroom instruction continues without interruption. We appreciate your continued support. Again, this was an important message for Kashmere High School parents from Principal Brandon Dickerson.”
