SAN ANTONIO – Public officials have come up with a 25-year plan to address commute times, congestion, the environment and the overall quality of life for residents in the area.
"We are looking 25 years into the future. Everything from adding lanes to roadways, bicycle, pedestrian, public transportation and transit is going to be a big deal. VIA is a critical partner," said Linda Vela, planning and public involvement manager at the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.
The project includes Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe and Kendall counties. The Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, or AAMPO, said it expects 1.1 million more people in Bexar County by 2045.
"We have about 50 million miles traveled daily. That’s a lot of miles being put on our transportation system, but as we grow, we nearly double that population and so will those vehicle miles traveled," Vela said.
AAMPO will hold a series of public meeting starting Oct. 25:
Kendall County: Open house at 5:30 p.m. and public meeting at Boerne Middle School from 6-8 p.m. on South 10 Cascade Caverns in Boerne, Texas on Wednesday.
Comal County: Open house at 5:30 p.m. and public meeting at New Braunfels Civic Center from 6-8 p.m. on 375 S. Castell Ave. in New Braunfels, Texas on Oct. 30.
Bexar County: Open house at 5:30 p.m. and public meeting at VIA Metropolitan Transit - VIA Metro Center from 6-8 p.m. on 1021 San Pedro in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday.
Guadalupe County: Open house at 5:30 p.m. and public meeting at Seguin-Guadalupe County Coliseum from 6-8 p.m. on 950 S Austin St. in Seguin, Texas on Nov. 2.
