SAN ANTONIO – UPDATE: Wajah Marie Smith, 29, who is accused of beating a pregnant woman with a bat has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
(ORIGINAL STORY)
An attack on a woman with a baseball bat at her gated Northeast Bexar County apartment complex early Thursday doesn't appear to be random, sheriff's investigators said.
The case is still under investigation, but it's possible the attack may have stemmed from a love triangle, investigators said.
The victim was caught by surprise around 5 a.m. when she was leaving for work. She was still inside the complex in the 7400 block of Kitty Hawk Drive when someone hit her on the head, investigators said.

"She was running hysterically, throughout the entire complex, knocking on each and every door," a neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said. "Next thing I know, she's bleeding at my door."
The neighbor said she had been unable to fall asleep on her bed, so she had decided to spend the night on her living room sofa. She woke up to the commotion outside her door.
"I opened up the door and she was standing right at my door, a bloody mess," she said. "I told her, 'You need to calm down.'"
Before the neighbor could help the victim, deputies and paramedics arrived. By then, the attacker was gone.
The beaten woman was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Deputies found an aluminum bat beneath a parked car. They also found blood splattered on a nearby sidewalk.

Investigators spent hours knocking on doors and talking to neighbors.
They said it appeared someone purposely targeted the woman, possibly related to a love triangle.
