Back the Blue march held downtown to honor slain, wounded officers

Viewing for Officer Miguel Moreno to be held Thursday

SAN ANTONIO – The community rallied Wednesday evening in a show of support for fallen San Antonio police Officer Miguel Moreno and injured Officer Julio Cavazos.

Dozens gathered downtown for a march to back the blue. Moreno was remembered by a friend as a generous person, and one officer talked about how the San Antonio Police Department will move forward after this tragedy.

“Moreno was an amazing person. He always had a great personality. He smiled a lot. He was a great dancer. He'd give the shirt off his back to anybody if you asked for something,” said Paula Littrell, a friend of Moreno.

“Both officers would want us to keep working and doing our job out here in the community. All of us want to better the community for our families. That’s why we do this job. And they wouldn't want us to stop for anything,” said Officer Chris Arroyo, with the SAPD.

The group started at the Alamo and marched to end their night at Public Safety Headquarters.

A viewing will be held Thursday evening for Moreno at Porter Loring on McCullough Avenue at Interstate 35. It will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a service at 7 p.m. The service will be open to the public until 9 p.m.

A funeral procession will leave the Alamodome at 8 a.m. Friday. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. at Community Bible Church, followed by police honors. The burial will be private.

KSAT, along with our community partners, will be hosting a phone bank for the 100 Club of San Antonio on Thursday. The 100 Club’s mission is to assist the families of police officers, firefighters and other first responders killed in the line of duty.

The phone bank will run from noon until 7 p.m. Anyone who would like to donate during that time can call 210-351-1363.
