Bexar-Bulverde VFD breaks ground on new fire station

New fire station is third for the Fire Department

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar-Bulverde Volunteer Fire Department is welcoming a new fire station by breaking ground in an area that has seen rapid population growth in recent years.

Fire Chief Jerry Bialick said the new station will enhance the department's service by bringing in much-needed manpower and equipment.

"This area has really expanded with all the homes and businesses, and there was really a need to increase the fire protection and EMS (emergency medical) services," Bialick said.

The new fire station will be in the 25400 block of Canyon Golf Road and the total cost of the facility is $3.65 million.

It will be staffed by full-time and volunteer firefighters and house about four vehicles, along with a new ladder truck.

Bialick said the construction should be completed by April 2019.
