UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas – An apology was included in some of the first words heard from the last suspect arrested in connection to a homicide that happened two and half weeks ago in Universal City.
On Feb. 7, Martin Gonzalez was found shot in the head in the trunk of his own car.
While police were walking 34-year-old Bryan Miller to be booked into jail on capital murder charges, KSAT asked him if there was anything he wanted to say to Gonzalez's family. His response was "I'm sorry."
The KSAT crew also asked if Miller was involved in the crime. He said, "No it was just my house. I was stuck there."
Miller admitted he was staying at the house where it all happened.
"I ain't got nothing to do with that," he said.
Ashton Lomas, Garick Clayton, Meagan Cantu and now Miller are charged with capital murder.
"Everybody has placed themselves at the crime scene, and they have also provided details of what happened," Universal City Police Detective Daniel Carmona said.
Carmona said Lomas provided the most information.
"They brought Martin Gonzalez to the house. The whole plan was to rob him and it got out of hand, and he was shot in the back of the head," Carmona explained.
Carmona said Cantu was friends with Gonzalez and was even staying with him. He said she had given Gonzalez a watch because she owed him money. She supposedly wanted that watch back, police said, so she brought in Lomas, Clayton, and Miller to do the job.
"They took the watch, two gold chains, two pistols and a little bit of marijuana," Carmona said.
Carmona called Miller the mastermind.
"He's the one that ordered Ashton Lomas to shoot Martin Gonzalez. Brian Miller then ordered Ashton Lomas to clean up the crime scene and get rid of the body," Carmona said.
On Thursday afternoon, an anonymous tip led Universal City police to Miller's location, where the U.S. Marshals Service helped arrest him.
Relief eased some pain for Gonzalez's family, knowing that all four suspects are now behind bars.
"I spoke with the mom," Carmona said. "She's glad that all of them are caught. Of course, it was an unfortunate incident and nobody deserves to die that way."
The U.S. Marshals Service, San Antonio police and the Texas Department of Public Safety helped with the arrests over the last two and a half weeks. All four suspects are at the Bexar County Jail.
