“I want to stress that Pat had absolutely nothing to do with the financial indiscretions, and we appreciate his solid contributions to the organization over the past five years. However, the board and he both felt his resignation was in the best interest of Centro San Antonio," said Don Frost, Centro's board chairman.

According to the organization, the 2015-2016 audit was identified as fraudulent after a conversation with the accounting firm that allegedly conducted the audit. After it became clear the accounting firm had not been associated with the audit, an investigation was immediately launched.

Once it was determined by the forensics accounting investigation that as much as $175,000 had been embezzled, law enforcement was notified and a criminal investigation was launched.

Centro said it also appears the stolen monies were isolated to the Centro San Antonio organization.

Centro San Antonio was founded in 2010 with the intent to bring together the public and private sectors to advocate for and provide thought leadership around the revitalization of San Antonio's urban core.
