SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio City Council on Thursday unanimously approved an agreement to develop five acres of land in the northwest area of Hemisfair Park.

The agreement between Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation and ZH Downtown Development Company will provide 385 housing units, up to 70,000 square feet of retail space, up to 120,000 square feet of office space, 200 hotel rooms and more than 600  underground public parking spaces, according to a news release from District 1 Councilman Robert Trevino.

"I believe everyone will look back on today as the day San Antonio truly activated Hemisfair as it connects to the Alamo, the Riverwalk, La Villita and the Convention Center,” Trevino said.

The development is part of the Hemisfair Master Plan the City Council approved in 2012 that the city and the Texas Legislature worked together on in order to clearly identify parkland and land available for potential development. More than 19 acres of parkland were identified as a result of their efforts, Trevino said.

There was no word on when the development will begin.
