City unveils new mural for World Heritage Trail art project

Set of murals titled 'Four Seasons'

SAN ANTONIO – The City of San Antonio celebrated its newest piece of artwork on Wednesday.

A panel of murals were unveiled as the newest addition to the World Heritage Trail Public Art Project.

The murals titled, “Four Seasons,” are located along Villamain Road at the I-410 underpass on the South Side.

They were created by four San Antonio artists: Joe de la Cruz, Albert Garza, Chris Montoya and Cristina Sosa Noriega.

The works depict the four seasons, and plants and animals native to this area.

The mural also represents migration across the area over thousands of years.

"This public art project is special because these murals are storytellers and capture the spirit and history of the nearby neighborhoods,” said Rebecca Viagran, District 3 councilwoman.

The project was a collaborative effort between the city’s arts and culture department, World Heritage officials and other community partners.

The mural is one of 10 murals that will be placed along the World Heritage Trail area to reflect the rich history and culture of the missions and surrounding community.

The missions were designated a World Heritage Site in 2015.
