Wolff to touch on technology, business, transportation in State of County speech

Thirteen new transportation projects have recently been approved in Bexar County

SAN ANTONIO – County Judge Nelson Wolff gave the keynote address Friday at the 11th annual State of the County event hosted by the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

Wolff talked about Bexar County's unemployment rate, transportation projects, housing, urban development and more.

The unemployment rate fin Bexar County is 3.7 percent, the fifth-lowest rate in a metro area with a population exceeding 1 million people.

Thirteen new transportation projects have recently been approved in the county, with $179 million in funding.

A total of 35,000 jobs were added in Bexar County in 2015. Tech sector jobs continue to grow with an average wage of $78,000.

The county is also planning to develop a culture park near the San Pedro drainage ditch that will tell the story of the first settlements in San Antonio.

Hundreds of new housing units are under construction, and two sheriff substations will be breaking ground this summer. 

Wolff revealed plans to bring a new 114-acre, multi-use development to the San Antonio area near Interstate 10 and UTSA Boulevard. 

Organizers said the event provided North San Antonio Chamber members with the opportunity to connect with the county judge and discuss relevant issues affecting their businesses, community and quality of life.
