SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio fire crews were called out to the popular burger restaurant Chris Madrid’s Sunday morning for reports of smoke.
When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from an attic space located near the dining area of the restaurant. Because the business is closed on Sundays, cews forced their way into the building and found fire in the attic.
Firefighters had difficulty reaching the fire in the attic space and called for a second alarm to allow crews to rotate.
"We're not sure what cause thd fire at this time," San Antonio Fire Department Spokesperson Woody Woodward said. "We're currently speaking with the owner of the business. We have called arson, not because we necessarily believe it's suspicious, but we're going to need their help getting up in that attic space and taking a look and trying to determine what exactly caused the fire."
Crews closed off the streets near the 1900 block of Blanco Road.
No one was injured in the fire. Woodward said crews did not yet have an estimate on damages.
"It's kind of a sad day, but it looks like the restaurant is intact and it appears that the damage is not as significant as it could have been," Woodward, an admitted fan of the burger restaurant, said.
