SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police arrested a man Sunday accused of fatally stabbing another man downtown.
Ricardo Lawson, 44, was taken into custody around 1:30 p.m. in connection with the fatal stabbing of Marcus McGee-Simms, 26.
Officers were called out to the 200 block of East Commerce Street for reports of an unresponsive man. When they arrived to the scene, they found McGee-Simms with stab wounds. He was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead.
Investigators learned that minutes earlier, a call came in for a confrontation three blocks away from where McGee-Simms was stabbed, Sgt. Michelle Ramos said.
Police obtained surveillance video that showed the confrontation between McGee-Sims and Lawson, who was identified by a witness during the investigation.
Ramos said police have not found the murder weapon but still have enough probable cause to arrest Lawson.
As he was being taken to jail, Lawson told reporters he was defending himself.
When asked how McGee-Simms ended up dead, Lawson told reporters, "I don't know."
Lawson's criminal record includes several drug possession and criminal trespassing charges.
